INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERSHIP

The opportunities provided through my coursework and observations have enabled me to gain valuable experience and knowledge of the CAPE Standards, as evidenced by the connections below.

why-is-professional-development-important.jpg

CAPE 2b: New administrators understand the role of instructional leaders and use the state-adopted standards and frameworks to guide, support, and monitor teaching and learning.

CAPE 2c: New administrators know and apply research-based principles of adult learning theory and understand how teachers develop across the phases of their careers, from initial preparation and entry, through induction, ongoing learning, and accomplished practice.

To deepen my understanding of teacher development, I compared the evaluation processes for certificated personnel across two school districts. The investigation into evaluation practices included the processes for assessing teacher performance, as well as the remediation process for teachers who require additional coaching or discipline. I then analyzed their practices in relation to current research and trends in adult learning theory, comparing value-added evaluation with self-reflective growth models.
