MANAGEMENT AND LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

The opportunities provided through my coursework and observations have enabled me to gain valuable experience and knowledge of the CAPE Standards, as evidenced by the connections below.

CAPE 3b: New administrators know the importance of established structures, policies, and practices that lead to all students graduating ready for college and career.

CAPE 3c: New administrators understand the leader’s role in establishing a positive, productive school climate, supportive of staff, students, and families.

The purpose of this exercise was to identify a school growth area that would help create a positive, culturally diverse school climate. The plan I created focused on addressing inequities in grading practices and on building a stronger college-going culture. Keys to success included creating common summative assessments and emphasizing mastery of skills over compliance and busy work. Additionally, it required that credit recovery classes be taught with fidelity to reduce the incentive for students to repeat courses.
